Salary: £29,000.00 per annum
We also offer 26 days’ annual leave (+ public holidays) on starting, matched pension contributions up to 5 percent, enhanced pay when taking leave as your family grows, income protection insurance, a health-cash plan and a wide range of wellbeing and mental health support services.
Location: This role is home based with extensive travel throughout the region. Our head office is near Stoneleigh,Warwickshire so there’ll be occasional times you’ll need to travel to our office.
We will accept applications from candidates who are able to cover a combination of the following counties: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Worcestershire, Lincolnshire.
Hours: Our usual full-time hours are 35 a week — with an early finish on a Friday! We offer other flexible work options, such as compressed hours, which we’re happy to discuss.
What you’ll be doing:
Responding to equine welfare concerns and taking appropriate, lawful action to prevent and relieve suffering
Providing expert advice and support to horse owners in line with BHS standards and policies
Working with partner organisations, charities, and agencies to support welfare outcomes
Supporting, recruiting, and training volunteer Welfare Advisers
Delivering welfare education through events, presentations, and community engagement
Managing sensitive and challenging situations while working independently across the region
What you won’t be doing:
Exercising enforcement powers beyond the legal remit of the British Horse Society
Working in a purely office-based role - this position is field-based with regular travel
Focusing only on reactive casework - proactive education is a key part of the role
Keeping strictly 9-5 hours - some evenings and weekends are required
Working entirely alone - you will collaborate with volunteers, colleagues, and partners

You are a confident self-starter who can work independently and manage your own workload
You have excellent communication skills and can influence and support a wide range of people
You are resilient and experienced in handling sensitive or emotionally challenging situations
