HGV Class 2 (Category C) and LGV Drivers

Due to an increase in workload, C&C Horse Transport Ltd are looking to recruit casual drivers for the family-owned business, based in Stokesley.

We are currently looking for experienced and reliable HGV Class 2 (Category C) and LGV Drivers to join our team of National and International equine drivers. This is a great opportunity for drivers who are confident transporting horses to multiple locations within both the UK, Ireland and Europe and who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

About the role

As a Driver for C&C you will be responsible for the transport and delivery of equines in a safe and timely manner, always providing a high level of welfare and professional customer service whilst meeting delivery schedules. No two days are ever the same and you will be expected to join in with emergency equine rescues, taking mares and foals to stud in Ireland and the UK, sales work and racing including overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely loading and securing equines on the vehicle; Undertake checks at point of delivery to ensure equines have not sustained any knocks during transport and the customer is happy; 

  • Supervising and assisting with the loading and unloading of equines into the lorry.

  • Maintaining and conducting basic checks of their vehicle, including brake, oil or tyre checks

  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues daily and on-going throughout the day; Ensuring vehicles are mechanically sound.

  • Confirm delivery instructions, plan routes accordingly and meet delivery schedules; Staying aware of any route diversions or updates to their delivery journey; 

  • Organising multiple drop-offs and deliveries in each working day.

  • Logging delivery information correctly; Communicate effectively with office team regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays; 

  • Complete delivery paperwork – note any errors or returns; Updating vehicle log books, recording deliveries and tracking mileage.

  • Having a strong awareness of the UK highway code; Always drive the vehicle safely and professionally in accordance with the Law; Adhere to EU Tachograph and WTD Driver Hours; 

  • Planning driving breaks for safety purposes during long-distance hauls.

  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients during deliveries.

  • Ability to provide a common sense approach to work.

Essential

  •  Full UK licence

  •  Good geographical knowledge and route planning skills

  •  Competent with horse handing experience

  • Ability to safely load and unload a variety of equines

  •  A positive, can-do attitude and professional approach

  •  Live within a 30 mile radius of TS9 6QD

Desirable

  • Minimum 1 year horse transport experience.

  • Certificate of competence driving equines over 8 hours.

  • Full UK Class 2 (Category C) licence

  • Valid CPC & Digi Tacho card, Have a full understanding and comply with EU Tachograph regulations
