Development Officer – Devon and Cornwall

Part Time – 3 day per week (22 hours)

Fixed Term for 2 years

Circa Starting Salary: £27,000 FTE

Home based with extensive travel throughout the Region

The British Horse Society is the nation’s largest equine charity with a passion for horses that is backed by knowledge and expertise. The BHS represents and provides a range of services for horse riders, horse owners, enthusiasts and professionals.

We are looking for ……..

Someone with experience of the equestrian world and of working with volunteers to take on this new role. You will build a strong volunteering community and presence in Devon and Cornwall supporting the delivery of our core objectives around participation, education, welfare, access, safety and membership.

You will be responsible for engaging new and existing volunteers, harnessing their enthusiasm for the work of the BHS to help you in delivering a programme of events and activities; from clinics to webinars, social events to CPD and much more. 

There are opportunities for you to learn from the best in the industry as you will be integral to delivering our engaging programme. You will gain insight and experience into the work of the BHS across all of it’s areas of delivery.  

Key skills needed for this exciting role:

  • Excellent understanding of the equestrian community/industry and the work of the BHS

  • Experience in organising and running events including risk assessment and promotion.

  • Experience of managing and working with volunteers and of volunteering

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Commercial awareness

  • BHS professional qualification would be desirable.

Here’s some information on the role….

You will need a flexible approach to working hours as some evening and weekend work will be required. You will also need to reside in Devon or Cornwall and have access to home office facilities with good connectivity.

A full driving licence with own vehicle are essential, as are good IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and social media administration.
