The BRS is a Centre of Excellence for training in the horseracing world.  The aim of the BRS is to provide a range of training of the highest standard to meet the needs of the racing industry, and to meet the needs of our learners.

The BRS was established in 1983. It is owned by a Charitable Trust and therefore any income generated is re-invested back into the School.

The original aim of the School was to provide purpose built facilities to promote and encourage young people who had the potential to ride as professional jockeys.

Since then, the School has developed and flourished to its current position as the Centre of Excellence for training in the racing industry, providing a whole range of different courses and training.

Courses on offer:

Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship in Racehorse Care

This course is for those aged between 16 and 22, and if you want to work full time in a racing yard it’s compulsory for those aged 16-18. It also falls in line with the government requirement to stay in education or training until you are 18. The course starts with a 12 or 18 week residential period where we teach you to ride and look after racehorses. Completion of this initial residential period leads to employment in a racing yard, where you will work towards your Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship.  Courses start throughout the year and we run monthly open days.

Open Days will take place virtually via our Facebook Page so please follow us on there for more information facebook.com/brsnewmarket

To speak to our careers team please call 01638 675905 or email careers@brs.org.uk

The Racing Secretary Course

The course is run over three days, with speakers ranging from organisations such as The International Racing Bureau (IRB), The National Trainers Federation (NTF), The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Weatherbys. An experienced and well established racing secretary will give a practical insight into fulfilling this demanding role, as well as sessions on Health & Safety and Payroll.

Course dates are all advertised on our website.
