Why study Equine at Moulton College?

For students passionate about equine care, riding, therapy, management and science, Moulton College provides the opportunity to develop your knowledge and gain invaluable experience to progress into equine management.

Employability is at the core of our teaching and learning, with our courses introducing you to a range of equine care methods to prepare you for a versatile career in industry. Expect to learn all you need to know about feeding, handling, riding and behaviour, through to the practical and theoretical elements of equine therapy, equine health and management.

Access specialist facilities

You’ll have access to our Equine Centre and Equine Therapy Centre, two commercially working centres of excellence. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to complete work experience, learning first hand what it’s like to work in industry environment. Through our equine courses you’ll develop your knowledge of all things equine, including the care and management of competition horses, and learn from lecturers who have sector experience.

Our excellent facilities include:

  • 60m x 40m indoor riding arena with spectator seating and judges’ area

  • Cross country training paddock

  • Stabling for up to 60 horses and outdoor riding arenas

  • On-site equine veterinary practice

  • Equine Hydrotherapy Centre comprising of a Water treadmill, pool and spa with solarium and weigh bridge.

Lecturers are sector specialists, with extensive work experience in all areas of equine.

BHS Challenge Awards and training for BHS Exams

All our equestrian course students are supported by a positive teaching and learning environment with highly qualified staff, guest speakers, lecturer demonstrations, trips and study tours.

Courses are available from levels 1-3 up to degree level.

Our Courses

FE courses

Horse Management – Diploma Level 1

Develop your understanding of horse care and stable management within this course. Guided by our expert lecturers you will learn different handling techniques, understand horse behaviour, gain practical feeding experience and learn grooming techniques alongside the ability to check horse health.

Horse Management – Diploma Level 2

Develop your understanding of preparing competition horses, along with basic horse biology and physiology. Additionally you will find out more about correct and proper horse handling, feeding and watering.

Horse Management – Diploma Level 3

Advance your knowledge of horse management, routine and competition care. Learn how to prepare horses for competition, horse behaviour and maintenance as well as equine science, health and disease.

Horse Management – Extended Diploma Level 3

Advance your knowledge of horse management and competition preparation and care. Through theoretical and practical learning you will develop your knowledge of horse fitness, behaviour and maintenance as well as equine science, health and disease.

HE courses

Equine Performance & Therapies - FdSc

Central to this degree is the training, performance and rehabilitation of the equine athlete. Through practical learning you will gain an understanding in performance analysis and therapy equipment. Guided by our expert lecturers you will also develop an understanding of equine anatomy, physiology, veterinary science and nutrition. You’ll learn topics including gait analysis, measuring behaviour and observing and developing therapeutic techniques. You’ll also access our fully equipped biosciences lab for dissection and microscope work.

Equine Performance & Therapies – BSc (Hons)

Central to this degree is the training, performance and rehabilitation of the equine athlete. Through practical learning you will gain an understanding in performance analysis and therapy equipment.
