National Manager – Cymru (Wales) & the Channel Islands

Full Time - 35 hours per week (working hours)

Starting Salary Circa: £40,000

Home based with extensive travel throughout Wales and the Channel Islands

The British Horse Society is the nation’s largest equine charity with a passion for horses that is backed by knowledge and expertise. The BHS represents, and provides a range of services for, horse riders, horse owners, enthusiasts and professionals.

We are looking for ……..

an independent, highly motivated self-starter with a passion for all things equestrian. You will build a strong BHS community and presence, delivering our core objectives around participation, education, welfare, access, and safety through designing a programme of events and engagement activities.

Often the first point of contact with the Society; you will develop good working relationships with a diverse range of people. This will include political representatives, public sector stakeholders, members of the public, volunteers, show organisers, instructors and trainers and other organisations whose work impacts on the objectives of the Society. You will ensure that the needs and views of the equestrian community are represented in relevant policy developments and provide nation-specific guidance and direction to colleagues.

Key skills needed for this exciting role:

  • Excellent understanding of the equestrian community/industry and the work of the BHS

  • Knowledge and understanding of the roles of relevant Welsh Government Departments and of Senedd Cymru

  • Experience in organising and running events including risk assessment and promotion.

  • Experience of managing and working with volunteers and of volunteering

  • Excellent influencing and communication skills

  • Commercial awareness

  • BHS professional qualification would be desirable.

Here’s some information on the role….

You will need a flexible approach to working hours as significant evening and weekend work will be required. You will also need to reside in Wales and have access to home office facilities with good connectivity.

A full driving licence with own vehicle are essential, as are good IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and social media administration.
