Circa Starting Salary: £30,000

Based at our HQ near Stoneleigh, Warwickshire (Agile working arrangments available)

We are looking for an……..

A Horse Care and Welfare Engagement Manager who will lead the horse care and welfare helpline team, engaging with horse owners and carers to support the delivery of horse care through education and manage and support the volunteer horse care and welfare advisors. In addition they will manage the BHS ID only PIO function. In conjunction with the Director of Welfare, the Manager will fulfil a vital role of working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and volunteers to increase engagement with the BHS.

Key skills needed for this exciting role:

  • Experience of working with and managing volunteers demonstrated through previous roles or employment

  • Educated to degree level in an equine or animal related subject

  • Able to demonstrate effective line management skills

  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of all aspects horse care, welfare, breeding  and associated organisations

  • Thorough understanding of equine related legislation

  • Experience of delivering seminars/ presentations

  • Understanding of budget management

  • Enthusiastic and self motivated with excellent team-working skills;

  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels

  • Car driver with flexible attitude to travel around the UK

  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings, including overnight stays

Here’s some information on the role….

  • You will be required to manage our team of horse care and welfare helpline co-ordinators ensuring that they have the knowledge and training to deliver advice to horse owners and carers

  • You will manage and support the volunteer Horse Care and Welfare Advisors, in conjunction with the Volunteer Co-ordinator, ensuring that they are adequately trained and have current knowledge of all the BHS horse care and welfare educational materials

  • Help develop ways to engage further with existing stakeholders and identify new stakeholder groups

  • Manage the BHS Passport function ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements as required by Defra, overseeing the work of the Passport Administrator

  • Ensure that all relevant data is captured, quality assured and recorded. Use data to measure the impact of the activities of the Horse Care and Welfare Team which can inform and guide the work of the team and also the BHS.

  • Support the BHS Approved Centre Team with the Second Chance rehoming programme as required.
