Based at: Equestrian Centre, Aintree Racecourse

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week (Any 5 from 7) 

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Manager to work closely with the Equestrian Centre Manager and assist with overseeing the day-to-day management, organisation and running of competitions and events in the Equestrian Centre.

The Equestrian Centre Assistant Manager will:

  • Assist with managing and coordinating the event diary to maximise the profitability and popularity of the Centre, in conjunction with developing a schedule of affiliated and unaffiliated competitions.

  • Assist with the comprehensive planning of events, including the organisation and booking of judges, writers, and commentators and liaise with caterers, cleaners, contractors, and internal departments.

  • Assist with compiling P&L for events, including taking and inputting entries, organising prize money/rosettes, providing times for competitors, setting up and running the Show Management System and collating and returning results/qualifiers to relevant governing bodies.

  • Administer all equestrian themed enquiries and bookings including all technical details, fees management and Health & Safety documentation.

  • Liaise with the Conference and Events Manager and the Operations Manager, with regard to the management and co-ordination of equine activities and conference/banqueting activities.

  • Assist with answering and dealing of telephone calls/messages, letters, emails, and other correspondence. Assist with follow up calls to all enquiries ensuring that messages are recorded.

  • Assist with the operation, maintenance and upkeep of the Equestrian Centre building, services and facilities, riding surface, equipment and machinery ensuring that all areas are fit for use and liaising with ground staff and operations teams when necessary.

  • Assist the Stable Manager and Facilities teams when required during busy turnarounds in the stables and surrounding areas.

  • Assist with the organisation, running and promotion of any additional equine activities, such as training clinics and demonstrations.

  • Lead the team of permanent, casual and volunteers in the absence of the Equestrian Centre Manager, whilst always leading by example.

  • Develop a pool of volunteers, liaising with universities, colleges, and schools to assist with the running of equestrian activities.

  • Assist with the marketing of the Centre, including newsletters, emails, the website and our Facebook & Instagram pages. Regularly updating all, along with the event calendar, schedules, times, and results.

  • Oversee the development of the Centre’s sponsorship partnerships ensuring that the sponsorship budget is met each year.

  • Assist with the health and safety documentation for the Equestrian Centre and ensuring that our policies and procedures are followed at all times.

  • Assist at Aintree Racecourse race meetings, as and when requested.

The successful candidate:

  • You will have good working knowledge of IT, its application to the job, including database development, spreadsheets, word processing, power point and implementation of administrative systems.

  • You will have an understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including risk assessments.

  • You will be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.

  • You will have experience in administration, running, organising a business or event.

  • You will be involved and have knowledge of the equine/horse industry with an understanding of British Dressage & British Showjumping.

  • You will communicate effectively over the telephone, face to face and in writing.

  • You will have experience in leading a team.

  • You will have experience in developing/implementing marketing plans.

  • You will have finance and budgetary skills.
