Weatherbys sign up for 12 months with Equine Careers Equine Careers are pleased to announce their association with Weatherbys for the coming year, Weatherbys have signed up for Equine Careers to advertise all their vacancies until September 2010.
Katherine Fidler successfully placed with Weatherbys via Equine Careers AFTER an exciting gap year working on ranches in the Southern Hemisphere, Katherine Fiddler recognised it was time to get on the career ladder.
Having worked with horses on and off but in a more outdoor environment, Katherine was looking for an office based job that still involved an equine element.
Katherine takes up the story: “I graduated from university in 2008 with a BSc (Hons) and MSc in Equine Science, and then had a gap year working on ranches around Australia which was an amazing opportunity.
“But I obviously realised at some point I would need to return and find a ‘real’ job. Sometimes it can be a mine field seeing what is available but I feel very fortunate that I found EquineCareers.co.uk
“Funnily enough, I actually heard about Equine Careers twice on the same day! I saw an advertisement and my friend also told me about the website.
“I was looking for my first ‘proper’ job in the equine industry too get me started as I had a lot of experience working on yards in the more practical side of things whilst studying, but hadn’t managed to get a lot of experience in an office type environment.”
One of the vacancies on EquineCareers.co.uk was as the studbook administrator for Weatherbys.
Katherine applied and was delighted when she heard she had secured a new and exciting position.
“My role as studbook administrator covers a variety of tasks, many of which I’m yet to learn as I only started a few weeks ago!
“It includes tracking foal registrations, processing payments, altering owner/horse details and preparing passports for all the new TB foals currently needing to be registered.
“I started at a peak time so life has been busy right from the start and it’s a case of just getting on with things and making them happen.
“I am really enjoying the challenge and it’s really interesting to see all the behind the scenes work that goes on in the TB breeding industry.
“I really like the idea of Equine Careers because although there are plenty of websites advertising equine related jobs in the practical side such as grooms and instructors, there was nothing similar for the more professional/office based side.”
